About

After a round-the-world honeymoon, we were led to live in a mountain village of Okuyamato, Shimokitayama Village.

Our goal here is to live a simple life harmonious with people and the earth, we call it “Onogurashi”.

We traveled the world for about three years on our honeymoon. During our trip, we were keen on visiting local people and learn the essence of human and earth-friendly life. We chose the destination and people we stayed with randomly by listening to our heart, and became families with hosts and woofers at home stays and farm stays around the world. They all seemed to live happily in good health both physically and mentally, close to nature and friends. Even as a traveller, we felt cozy and safe living in a community where people are connected with nature and neighbors. While feeling the little happiness that overflows here and there every day, we came to know that we can also live like this. It was sustainable and self-regulatory, an ideal life we were looking for.

We want to create and cherish such a way of living ourselves. The image of our lifestyle became clear.

After returning back home, we chose to move to Shimokitayama Village. With generous support and guidance of its people, we’ve sustained our life here for a year now, and starting our second summer. We appreciate the lives of Shimokitayama Village that is along with beautiful blessings of the mountains, rivers, and the land of the four seasons. We will start a small mountain lodge to share this life of our favorite village.

We wish to welcome all guests with warm feeling of home.

Each encounter with guests is a treasure. We hope you feel home at Mountain House -haru∞baru- and visit us anytime as  families and friends.

Onogurashi

Ono of Onogurashi (Ono living) has three meanings. One is our family name; Ono. The other is from local language of Hawaii "ono"; good!! The last one is "ono" in Japanese, which means ax; a symbolic tool that creates life in the mountains.

By making our living by hands, and taking responsibility of how we live and what we create, we continue to pursue our own way of a living that is kind to people and the earth. We've expressed this concept with Onogurashi
